Q1 beta available now, RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX

Sorry folks, I'm bringing this news to you a few days late. Still it doesn't diminish its importance! The Q1 2009 beta for the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX is now available! This is your chance to get a hands-on look at what's coming in Q1 (for ASP.NET AJAX, at least) and send us your feedback while there's still time to change things before the official release. Here's a highlight of what you'll find in the beta (and, in turn, the Q1 release):

For me, the improvements in RadScheduler and the Telerik skins are the most exciting aspects of this release. Finally we can bind RadScheduler directly to web services and add/remove appointments client-side (without the need for a Ajax server round-trip). And the new skins look great! That said, the observant among you probably caught my "*" items. The new skinning in Q1 does represent a breaking change for custom skins (not a problem for those of you using Telerik skins). We've made some changes to the CSS naming conventions of the controls to better support nested RadControls, and as such, your custom CSS needs to be updated. For more details and an offer from Telerik to fix your skins for you, see this blog post from Telerik Sr. Developer Tervel Peykov. Also, the "Default2006" and "Gray" skins are being retired. The new "Default" skin closely resembles those skins, though, so that is the best migration path for those of you currently using one of the affected skins. We hope you enjoy all of the enhancements and polish in the Q1 release. Let us know what you think and then get ready for the official bits in about 2 weeks! Hi Todd,

Since you're now a Windows 7 user, can you check out the FileManagers of the Editor in IE8? They don't work *at all* for me. Microsoft won't let the Windows 7 people upgrade to IE8 Beta 2 either (from what I understand). So can you reproduce the issues on your box, and can you indicate whether or not this is specific to IE8 Beta 1 or just IE8 in general. I'd like to roll out the Q1 beta in some production environments but this would be a show-stopper. It works great in the other browsers though and I'm very excited about alot of the Q1 2009 updates. Thanks!

Hey Shaun-

I've tested the RadEditor dialogs in IE8 on Win7 Beta (build 7000) and I don't see any issues (including the file managers). Can you describe your scenario? I'll be happy to check it out and report back.

-Todd

Simple test that I'm reproducing 100% of the time.

Open the image manager, and I get javascript errors:

All javascript within the opened FileManager dialog does not work. The close button from the RadWindow is the only thing that can be clicked.

Opening the Hyperlink Manager I get these errors:

Shaun-

Let's move this thread to a support ticket. I tried the link you sent in Win7 IE8 (v8.0.7000.0) and FF3.1 beta 1 and I could not reproduce the errors. I get no JS warnings and all dialogs load correctly.

Strange.

If this is a beta install of Win7, maybe there's a problem in your environment? Not sure what else could cause this strange difference. Let's move these details to a support ticket so we can debug deeper.

Sorry I can't provide more help!

Well it wasn't quite 6 minutes, but about 6 hours isn't too shabby either! Here's Lini's response:

Hello Shaun,

Thank you for the report. We are already aware of the problem and I can assure you that it will be fixed for the official Q1 2009 release.
