Telerik Watch Minute: Weekend Edition

It was a busy week with a lot of travel, so this Telerik Watch Minute comes to you a little late. Consider this the first "Weekend Edition" of TWM. This episode sticks to the format and delivers a few quick updates regarding Telerik and my recent speaking trips. You'll also notice that this episode is widescreen formatted. We're in the process on transitioning to HD video, so soon all (new) content will be easy watch, especially if it has screen capture text that you need to see. Enjoy the quick update and watch for more high quality episodes soon.

Hello Sir,

I was just wondering, will you be switching your videos over to use Silverlight instead of Adobe Flash?

It seems that a lot videos online haven't made the switch and I'm not sure why.

In fact, I've got some clients that aren't very eager to have me switch over to Silverlight. Their existing "Flash" intros are doing just fine and winning them over with the idea of moving to Silverlight has been more difficult than I expected.

So, I'm wondering; what's the 'magic word' to win them over and make the switch to Silverlight.

Well, perhaps this is all just a rhetorical question. Perhaps, "if it's not broken, don't fix it" fit's in somewhere in here.

In any case, thanks for the update.

Till next time,

Dave

Is the cap available in black with green logo? If yes, can I get one :)

@Dave- I don't think we'll be using SL for our video soon. Not because we don't want to, but because we've decided to use a global content provider that currently provides a Flash-based player.

As for as a magic word goes, I think you're looking for things like "save you money" and "easy to implement." That means you're not looking to ambiguously replace existing Flash stuff that works, but instead look for scenarios that Silverlight enables you to do more that you can today (thanks to VS and .NET). Make sense?

@Asit- This was an old Telerik MVP cap. I like your idea of the black with green, though. I'll see what I can do to make that available. :)

I love the cap! Does it come in Men's?

Just kidding :)

@Lino- It does come in men's, but why would you be interested in that? ;-)

Hello,

Regarding the Telerik code library; They don't have a listing for Silverlight code samples. I've created a couple of very simple code samples that could be helpful for a beginner and was considering posting them to the library.

Since you're an MVP I thought I'd ask you for your thoughts before pursuing it further.

Thanks!

Dave
