WinForms, Reporting Q2 2009 service packs now available

reportingServicePack The first two service packs from the Q2 2009 release are now available for immediate download. The RadControls for WinForms and Telerik Reporting have each been updated to SP1 and these service packs are heavy hitters. Each delivers some compelling improvements (beyond bug fixes) to the suites and each is worth extra consideration even if you’re not dealing with any bugs. Highlights:

RadControls for WinForms (2009.2.9.729)

  • 5 NEW events in RadDock, many new properties (giving you more control)
  • New DocumentManager in RadDock (makes it easier to manage, manipulate Documents)
  • New CommandManager in RadDock (register your own keyboard shortcuts)
  • 8 NEW events in DragDropService, new properties
  • 50+ bug fixes across all controls

There are 2 breaking changes, one in RadScheduler, one in RadTreeView. The TreeView change will not effect you immediately- it is simply a obsolete property that will be removed in Q3. The Scheduler change, though, is breaking. See the release notes for details.

Telerik Reporting (3.1.9.807)

  • NEW! Medium Trust support (big improvement for shared environments)
  • NEW support for hyperlinks in HtmlTextBox item (beginning of drill-down report support)
  • Bug fixes in rendering, report viewers
  • 15 bug fixes / improvements to Visual Studio design-time

The SP1s for the other suites are coming soon. The XAML service pack will likely ship next week and the ASP.NET SP will ship later this month. Also, for Q2 2009, we don’t expect to ship a second round of SPs. We were proud to find that our Q2 2009 release was very high quality, and the current SP round should address all reported issues. Make sure you use the Latest Internal Build tool to grab a hotfix if you need it between SP1 and Q3 2009 – which is now only about 3 months away!

New Q2 WinForms videos on Telerik TV

Just because the "official" Q2 2009 Release Week is behind us does not mean that the new resources for the Q2 bits will not keep flowing. For example, today we released four new videos to Telerik TV that will help jumpstart your work with the RadControls for WinForms Q2 2009 release. Specifically, the videos help you get started with the new RadDock for WinForms and some of the new features in RadScheduler for WinForms. You can catch the "Getting Started with RadDock" video embedded in this post, and then catch all of the Q2 WinForms videos (released so far) on Telerik TV in full, high-quality resolution: Getting Started with RadDock for WinForms Saving and Loading RadDock for WinForms Layouts Codeless Data Binding with RadScheduler for WinForms Adding Custom Fields to RadScheduler for WinForms Appointments Validation with RadGridView for WinForms

Q2 2009 Webinars: RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX and WinForms

Another Q2 2009 Release Week Webinar is in the can and ready for your immediate on-demand viewing on Telerik TV (and just above in this post). This webinar covers in more depth the new controls and features in the Q2 2009 RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX and RadControls for WinForms releases. We cover the new controls in ASP.NET AJAX (RadListBox, RadCaptcha, RadXmlHttpPanel, and RadBinaryImage) and we cover the performance improvements and new RadDock in WinForms. This is a great way to get started with the new bits for these two Telerik suites in Q2, so I hope you enjoy recorded resource. For the hundreds of you that attended live, once again a big thanks for your time! You are all in the running for the two licenses being given away today, and you've earned another entry in Friday's Grand Prize drawing. Watch for today's winners to be announced soon on my "generally strictly business" Twitter feed. Watch on Telerik TV in Full Resolution

Sitefinity 3.6 Beta, WinForms SP2 released

I don't usually "bundle" news items in to a single post, but since it's Friday and I have a couple of releases to announce, I'll make an exception.

First, early this week Telerik released the second service pack for the Q3 2008 RadControls for WinForms. This SP addresses a number of issues across the entire suite, but you can find some highlights in WinForms Evangelist John Kellar's blog post. If you're using the RadGridView for WinForms, this release does a lot to improve the memory management and resource footprint of that control, so it's probably worth your time to download the latest bits. Full release notes, of course, are available online.
Second, today Telerik released the Sitefinity 3.6 Beta. Sitefinity 3.6 is the next "major" release of Silverlight and it's packing a lot of new and improved functionality. The Sitefinity Team and Sitefinity Evangelist Gabe Sumner have both blogged about the new features, so I encourage you to follow those blogs if you're a Sitefinity developer. For those not willing to follow the links, here are some of my favorite improvements in SF 3.6:
  • All built-in templates are now Embedded Resources (making it much simpler to customize SF control templates and -significantly- reducing the SF file count)
  • New, simplified custom module architecture (backwards compatible)
  • Latest versions of both RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX and Silverlight
  • Support for hierarchal categories (great when tagging related content)
  • "Unbreakable" dynamic links
Even though this release is only a "minor" version tick, it's got enough improvements to warrant major version status. Sitefinity continues to be one of the easiest "CMS" (or, from the developer perspective, "development platforms") for ASP.NET developers to learn and extend since it does not "break" (or modify) ASP.NET the way many other CMS systems do. If you haven't checked it out yet, grab a free copy of the community edition (which you can use for commercial projects) and have fun!

RadGridView webinar follow-up (update)

Today Lino Tadros from Falafel held the first RadWebinar on Telerik's RadGridView for WinForms. The event went very well and we hope that everyone that attended enjoyed the format and was able to learn something new about RadGridView. If you weren't able to make today's event, or if you'd just like to study the material presented in-depth, Lino has gone the extra mile and prepared PDF courseware and numbered demos for your reference. You can download those resources below. The video of today's event will be available online soon, too. It will take some more time to process the video for online viewing, but to avoid any delays (and to have access to the "full size" video), you can download the "raw" GoToWebinar recording below. A lightly edited version will be available for online viewing in the coming days. Enjoy the content and keep your RSS readers tuned-in for the next RadWebinar details! RadGridView for WinForms webinar coming soon

Up 'til now, a lot of our online webinars have been showing the love to Telerik's ASP.NET AJAX, WPF, Silverlight, and Reporting products, leaving the RadControls for WinForms out of the fun. Fortunately, that story is about to change as Falafel has announced their next RadWebinar. On October 1st, Falafel CEO & Microsoft MVP Lino Tadros will be doing a brand new (FREE) webinar on the RadGridView for WinForms. The RadGridView is one of Telerik's most popular WinForms controls and clearly one of the most essential for LOB application developers, so this should be a very popular session. Lino will be covering a number of topics during this live 2-hour event (of which the on-demand video will be available in high quality online much faster than before- sorry for those continued delays) including:

  • Basic overview of the RadGridView's features, design-time support, and API
  • Detailed look at hierarchy support
  • Examination of high-performance data binding features and configurations
  • Introduction to exporting data
If you're a WinForms developer and you want to learn more about Telerik's RadGridView, don't miss this session. You can register now to save your spot and then tune-in live on October 1st at 9:30 AM PDT for all the fun. Hope you enjoy the webinar and keep telling us what you want to see next so we can prepare the content you need! Register for FREE RadGridView RadWebinar now

Q2 2008 comming next week

We've been building-up to this release for a while now- well, about 3 months, really- and it's time to prepare for the big event. The 2nd major Telerik release for 2008 will ship next week, and with it will come exciting new improvements, controls, and suites! Q2 2008 will not only bring many new features to the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX and WinForms, but it will also officially introduce two new RadControl suites: RadControls for WPF and RadControls for Silverlight (though the Silverlight release will be "beta" until the plug-in is finalized). With so much in this release, it's easy to miss some of the important details. So while you wait for the big day, I've prepared a list of essential posts (both from this blog and the Telerik.com blogs) that you can read to get all the details you need to prepare for Q2:

RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX

RadControls for WinForms & Telerik Reporting
RadControls for WPF & Silverlight
Enjoy the posts and keep your RSS readers (or your browsers, for those not in to the "reader thing") locked-in here for the latest updates as Q2 draws near!
