Two free Telerik webcasts THIS WEEK, Reporting and WPF

Open your calendars and get ready to jot down two important (free) events this week. Telerik is hosting two webcasts this week, one on Telerik Reporting (rescheduled from last week) and one on RadGridView for WPF. Both events are 100% free. Both are lead by Telerik Evangelists- so these are developer talks, not sales talks. Both are at 11:00 AM EST. If you want to maximize your Telerik learning, sign-up for these events now to reserve your seat. And don't delay, the first webcast is tommorrow (Tuesday)! Register for Telerik Reporting Webinar ("Reporting 101") Date: Tuesday, Feb 3rd, 2009 @ 11 AM EST (Tommorrow!) Register for Telerik WPF Webinar ("Getting Started with RadGridView for WPF") Date: Thursday, Feb 5th, 2009 @ 11 AM EST A quick note about the time (since a few people have asked). We're hosting these webcasts at 11:00 AM EST so we can enable as many people as possible on this vast round globe of ours to attend the live event. When an event is held at 11:00 AM EST, that means it's 8:00 AM PST (the beginning of the workday), 10:00 AM CST, and 4:00 PM GMT (that's London, for the unfamiliar). I know this doesn't work for everybody- no time does- so we will be making these recordings available on Telerik TV shortly after the live event. Hope that helps and I hope to see you at the live events!

Telerik Watch Minute: Silverlight RadGridView Beta

The first Telerik Watch Minute of the new year kicks-off with a quick look at the new RadGridView for Silverlight beta that shipped in mid-December. You'll see how you can quickly get started with the RadGridView in a Silverlight project, and you'll get a close look at one of the GridView's more "advanced" features: grouping. I also show you the RadGridView beta and the standard Silverlight DataGrid side-by-side, so you can quickly see how the beta stacks-up to the OfTB (out-of-the-box) grid control. Clearly, what you're seeing today is just a beta, so the final version that ships towards the end of February is going to have many more features (and themes), but I think it's a good early look at what you can expect in about 8 weeks time. Also, a production note: since the new Telerik TV portal is now live, you can now watch this video in its full "native" size (and thus at the best quality possible) by visiting the video on tv.telerik.com. In fact, Telerik Watch Minute has a full "channel" on the new Telerik TV portal, so feel free to catch any old episodes while you're there. Hopefully this will make your Telerik Watch Minute fix even better! Watch this episode of Telerik Watch Minute in HD on Telerik TV

RadGridView webinar follow-up (update)

Today Lino Tadros from Falafel held the first RadWebinar on Telerik's RadGridView for WinForms. The event went very well and we hope that everyone that attended enjoyed the format and was able to learn something new about RadGridView. If you weren't able to make today's event, or if you'd just like to study the material presented in-depth, Lino has gone the extra mile and prepared PDF courseware and numbered demos for your reference. You can download those resources below. The video of today's event will be available online soon, too. It will take some more time to process the video for online viewing, but to avoid any delays (and to have access to the "full size" video), you can download the "raw" GoToWebinar recording below. A lightly edited version will be available for online viewing in the coming days. Enjoy the content and keep your RSS readers tuned-in for the next RadWebinar details! Download PDF courseware [3 MB] Download demo code [1 MB] Download RadWebinar video (MOV) [650 MB] UPDATE: The online version of the webinar is now available for those that want to stream it.

RadGridView for WinForms webinar coming soon

Up 'til now, a lot of our online webinars have been showing the love to Telerik's ASP.NET AJAX, WPF, Silverlight, and Reporting products, leaving the RadControls for WinForms out of the fun. Fortunately, that story is about to change as Falafel has announced their next RadWebinar. On October 1st, Falafel CEO & Microsoft MVP Lino Tadros will be doing a brand new (FREE) webinar on the RadGridView for WinForms. The RadGridView is one of Telerik's most popular WinForms controls and clearly one of the most essential for LOB application developers, so this should be a very popular session. Lino will be covering a number of topics during this live 2-hour event (of which the on-demand video will be available in high quality online much faster than before- sorry for those continued delays) including:

  • Basic overview of the RadGridView's features, design-time support, and API
  • Detailed look at hierarchy support
  • Examination of high-performance data binding features and configurations
  • Introduction to exporting data
If you're a WinForms developer and you want to learn more about Telerik's RadGridView, don't miss this session. You can register now to save your spot and then tune-in live on October 1st at 9:30 AM PDT for all the fun. Hope you enjoy the webinar and keep telling us what you want to see next so we can prepare the content you need! Register for FREE RadGridView RadWebinar now

RadGridView for WinForms gets significant performance boost, beta

For those of you developing WinForms applications, this announcement should be great news! On Friday, the Telerik WinForms team released the long awaited (and slightly delayed) RadGridView Q1 2008 beta. This beta is your first chance to start experimenting with the completely revamped GridView control while you wait for the final version to ship in April with the official Q1 release. For the last 3 or 4 months, the WinForms Team has been working almost exclusively on re-engineering RadGridView with one "simple" goal: deliver the best looking and best performing grid for WinForms.

Their months of hard work have paid-off.

In the beta bits released this Friday, you'll discover a RadGridView that is capable of delivering the same rich, WPF-like UI the original Telerik Grid produced without sacrificing performance. In fact, it now delivers that rich UI while beating the performance of almost all other grid products for WinForms. For instance, here are some of the new performance metrics for RadGridView:

  • Average time to load 300,000 records: 340 ms
  • Average time to group 300,000 records: 100 ms
  • Refresh speed improvement over old grid: 150 times faster!
These numbers are the outcome of the painstaking work conducted by the WinForms Team to build a tool that delivers uncompromising performance, and I think you have to agree they've achieved some incredible results. Try the new GridView for yourself and put these numbers to the test. I certainly don't expect you to take impressive stats like this at face value, so grab the bits, give them a try, and then talk about your experience in our RadGridView beta forum.

On a final note, remember that this is a beta. We have a little time to go before our Q1 release, so your feedback is critical to help crush any remaining bugs. We hope you like what you see so far, though, and are as excited as we are to reach this milestone!
