Telerik Training Summit at TechEd 2009

Are you planning on attending TechEd 2009 this May? Do you want to maximize your time in L.A. and get some professional Telerik Training? Then you don't want to miss the upcoming Telerik Training Summit! Created and hosted by the experts in Telerik training at Falafel Software, the Telerik Training Summit is going to be a 3-day, instructor-led training covering the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. This is the best way to maximize your learning of the Telerik tools for ASP.NET AJAX in 2009.

The Summit will be held May 8th - 10th in Los Angeles (TechEd starts on the 11th) and- if you register by tomorrow- it's only $999. That's 24 hours of training + meals (breakfast/lunch) + facetime with one of the industry's leading trainers (Lino Tadros, MSFT MVP & Falafel CEO) for $999. And if you need even more incentive, Falafel has also arranged a $400 discount for TechEd if you register for the Telerik Training Summit!
Space is limited and demand is high, so talk to your boss, convince him/her that this training can't be missed and that you must be at TechEd this year (where we'll probably get another Windows 7 build and maybe even more .NET 4 details), and then register for the Summit now.

New Telerik training opportunities from Falafel

Looking for some in-depth, in-person training on Telerik's tools? Our good friends and partners at Falafel Software are your answer. They are about to launch a new series of in-person classroom training for the Telerik RadControls at their beautiful new state-of-the-art training facility in Capitola, California (near Santa Cruz). The next training is scheduled for April 6th and it will be covering the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. Resources from Silverlight 2 training, Wrap-up

We had a great turn-out at yesterday's Silverlight 2 training (despite the ugly weather in Houston) and we did some serious Silverlight 2 learning. It was 4 hours packed with info, hands-on-labs, and good questions from the audience. We covered everything from the roots of Silverlight to the basics of styling Silverlight controls in Blend to the basics of data binding with web services. A big thanks to everyone in Houston that came-out yesterday to spend the afternoon with me! Hopefully you had a good time and learned something in the process. For everyone else, I'm making the HOLs (hands-on labs) I developed for this training available on Telerik Watch! There are 5 brand new labs in the archive. The first is a simple "Hello World" lab that makes sure you know how to start a new Silverlight project. The other four labs guide you through the process of building-up and styling a simple app called "OverShare" (a nod to my affection for Twitter). The labs are split-up like this:

  • Working with Silverlight controls and Silverlight Toolkit
  • Working with Blend and styling Silverlight controls
  • Data binding basics with web services in Silverlight
  • Accessing cross-domain services and improving the loading experience
Enjoy the resources and have fun becoming a Silverlight expert! Download the new Silverlight 2 Hands-on Labs

Join me for Silverlight training TODAY (in Houston)

With all the hustle and bustle of the Telerik Q1 release, I forgot to plug my free half-day Silverlight 2.0 training that's happening today at the Microsoft offices in Houston! This four-hour training will cover everything from 101 to 301 and it will be a mix of presentation and hands-on labs (that I've created specifically for this training). The goal is to enable people that have never worked with Silverlight to learn everything they need to know to feel comfortable building "real" applications for themselves with Silverlight 2.0 (3.0 is off-limits for this training). The training will start at 1:00 PM local time and run 'til about 5:00 PM. The official title of this session is ".NET Dojo: Silverlight"- not my title, but it works, especially with the Telerik .NET Ninja motif. If you want to attend, you'll need to register, which you can still do online through Microsoft: http://msevents.microsoft.com/CUI/EventDetail.aspx?EventID=1032405198&Culture=en-US I will be repeating this training in Austin on April 2nd, so if you're in the Austin area, watch for that registration soon. Otherwise, for those of you in driving distance to Houston, I hope to see you in a few hours at the training!

RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Learning Guide now availabe in print

One of the new support resources we launched with our Q3 release in November was the brand new RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Step By Step Learning Guide. The Learning Guide, written by the RadControl and training experts at Falafel, fills almost 800 pages (!) with everything you need to know to be a productive Telerik developer. In fact, there is so much content that we had to split the book in to two parts: the Step by Step Learning Guide (about 600 pages) and the companion ActiveSkill Guide (about 190 pages). The ActiveSkill Guide shows you how to take the knowledge you've gained in the Learning Guide and apply it to build a complete real world application with the RadControls.

Both books are available now for on-demand printing on Lulu.com, but the PDF (as always) is freely available on Telerik.com (along with source code). We make the books available for print for those of you that don't want to burn 800 pages worth of toner. That said, to keep costs down, the Lulu books are in black and white, so if you want hard copies in glorious color, you'll need to print your pages (or tell us you want a full-color Lulu version, and we'll get that set up, too- it'll just cost you about $120).
And while you're browsing the new books on Lulu, don't forget that we also have a Telerik Reporting Learning Guide and Step By Step Guide for the old non-ASP.NET AJAX controls, too. Enjoy the reading!

RadGridView webinar follow-up (update)

Today Lino Tadros from Falafel held the first RadWebinar on Telerik's RadGridView for WinForms. The event went very well and we hope that everyone that attended enjoyed the format and was able to learn something new about RadGridView. If you weren't able to make today's event, or if you'd just like to study the material presented in-depth, Lino has gone the extra mile and prepared PDF courseware and numbered demos for your reference. You can download those resources below. The video of today's event will be available online soon, too. It will take some more time to process the video for online viewing, but to avoid any delays (and to have access to the "full size" video), you can download the "raw" GoToWebinar recording below. A lightly edited version will be available for online viewing in the coming days. Enjoy the content and keep your RSS readers tuned-in for the next RadWebinar details! Download PDF courseware [3 MB] Download demo code [1 MB] Download RadWebinar video (MOV) [650 MB] UPDATE: The online version of the webinar is now available for those that want to stream it.

New Sitefinity book published by Falafel

So, you've built a great website with Sitefinity (in record time, no less). You've wowed your clients with the site's rich page layout editor. You've impressed them with the site's ability to easily host blogs and forums. You've stunned them with the affordable price. Your clients are ready to become "web masters," but to get there they want some training. Before you trudge-off and try to build a training program for your Sitefinity users from scratch, don't miss the new book published by our good partners at Falafel titled Sitefinity Made Easy. In this 216 page book, the training masters at Falafel have built a complete 2-day course targeted at non-developers to help them get the most out of Sitefinity. From a complete tour of Sitefinity's features to in-depth discussion of customizing pages with modules, this book covers most of the topics end-users need to be productive in Telerik's CMS. There are even sections dedicated to walking the non-developer through Sitefinity installation and deployment, so if your end-users are a little more "hands-on," this is a great resource for them, too. The book is available directly via Lulu Press, $30 for paperback, $20 for digital PDF. Enjoy the resource and watch for more great books from Falafel soon!

FREE RadWebinar on advanced RadGrid topics

So far, the RadWebinars by Falafel have been very successful training tools, but Telerik was concerned that too many people were not getting to benefit from the training because of the $99 price tag. We want everyone to benefit from the live, instructor-lead training on Telerik's tools. So, we're very excited and pleased to announce that RadWebinars are now a FREE resource! That's right. You can now get the same live, instructor-lead training from Falafel gratis. You're welcome. And as if that news weren't enough, the next RadWebinar, which is covering advanced topics for RadGrid, will be taught none other than the brilliant and always entertaining Lino Tadros (Founder & CEO of Falafel). In this new session, Lino will cover topics like grid calculations, client-side grid operations, and improving performance with LINQ. Consider this a 301 session for RadGrid. So let's recap:

  • New RadWebinar on RadGrid, September 2nd at 9:30 AM (PST)
  • MS MVP Lino Tadros teaching the session
  • Registration is FREE!
Can you ask for anything more? Register now because this one is going to fill-up fast.

RadWebinar on RadGrid, July 29th

One of the most popular UI components Telerik makes is RadGrid for ASP.NET AJAX. Thousands of developers around the globe use this component every day to bring rich, standards-based grid functionality to their applications, and that creates a lot of interest in resources for learning how to maximize the Grid's power. And if all the documentation, on-demand videos, KB articles, Code Library examples, Telerik Trainer tutorials, and online demos aren't enough, we're giving you one more option. On July 29th, Falafel will host the first RadWebinar covering RadGrid!

Officially titled "Developing with Telerik RadGrid," this live training session will follow the format used for the first two Telerik Reporting RadWebinars. The session will start at 9:30 AM (PST) and last for a couple of hours with dedicated time at the end to answer your questions. The price is still a very affordable (for live training) $99 and the registration is open now. If you're interested in attending this training, I suggest you sign-up early since the popularity of RadGrid is likely to cause this session to fill-up fast. I hope you enjoy the new resource- stay tuned for more RadWebinars in the coming weeks.

Telerik launches new Enterprise Services

When it comes to developing software, Enterprise software shops (especially internal software shops or "factories" as they're often called these days) are a unique animal. They have massively complex requirements, tight deadlines, carefully monitored metrics, and the need to respond quickly to any of the crazy innovative ideas the business units submit. Having spent some time myself in a large, Fortune 200 IT shop with over 1,500 people, I know first-hand the challenges facing Enterprise developers are unique.

Telerik also recognizes the unique nature of Enterprise development and with the Q3 2007 release has launched new services tailored for Enterprise customers. These new services are primarily aimed at providing extra levels of support and training for large development teams that need to be 100% confident they can generate rapid ROI with Telerik tools. Launching this week are:

More services will be introduced in the coming quarter, including a number of innovative new services focused on training. For now, though, if you're an Enterprise customer (defined as a customer with 15 or more licenses), head over to the Telerik website and review the new service options available for your immediate consumption. If you're not an Enterprise customer, watch for more exciting information soon about new services designed for you.
